IAP Performance Calipers Without Pads Editorial Review
The IAP Performance front brake caliper is a great choice for vintage VWs, specifically the 1960s vintage VW Karmann Ghias. It is a direct replacement for the Empi #98-1150-b caliper and is also compatible with Puma GTC models. This caliper comes with pads and is almost ready for installation. The only downside is that it does not come with new hardware, but these can be bought separately for a few bucks. The bleeders of these calipers have two holes, one top, and one bottom for Left or Right side mounting. However, one reviewer mentioned that when suddenly braking, the buggy tends to veer to the side and lose control. Another reviewer complained that the pad squeals a bit when hot. In general, this brake caliper seems to work well, but only for customized VWs or sandrails, as the outside of the caliper rubs on the inside of the standard VW wheel.
