What is included in the Genuine COMP CAM 12-246-3 Xtreme Energy 230/236 Kit?

The Genuine COMP CAM 12-246-3 Xtreme Energy Kit includes high-performance lifters, double roller timing, and Z28 style high-performance springs, all meticulously designed to enhance the power and efficiency of your Chevrolet SBC engine. This kit is specifically built to fit various Chevrolet small block engines such as the 283, 327, 350, 400, and 5.7L. By integrating advanced components, this kit provides superior lift ratios of .487/.490, ensuring that your engine operates at peak performance.

What are the benefits of using high-performance lifters?

High-performance lifters, like those included in the COMP CAM 12-246-3 kit, are designed to reduce friction, improve responsiveness, and enhance overall engine performance. They help in achieving optimal lift and duration, maximizing power output while maintaining engine efficiency. Whether you are a race enthusiast or a casual driver looking to optimize performance, these lifters provide the reliability and power enhancements needed for both daily driving and high-speed applications.

What does the lift specification of .487/.490 mean?

The lift specification of .487/.490 in the COMP CAM 12-246-3 kit indicates the maximum height that the valves will open under the camshaft's influence. Specifically, .487 inches for the intake and .490 inches for the exhaust. This level of lift promotes better airflow into and out of the engine, allowing for increased horsepower and torque, thus providing substantial benefits for performance-focused applications, perfect for enthusiasts aiming to elevate their engine's capabilities.

Can this camshaft kit be used with stock components?

While the Genuine COMP CAM 12-246-3 Xtreme Energy Kit is designed to work seamlessly with many stock components, for optimal performance, it's often recommended to pair it with upgraded intake, exhaust, and fuel systems. Upgraded components complement the camshaft's designed lift and duration, providing better air-fuel mixing and exhaust flow. This is particularly beneficial for those looking to maximize their engine's performance either in regular driving or competitive racing situations.

What makes the Z28 style HP springs different from regular springs?

Z28 style high-performance (HP) springs featured in the COMP CAM 12-246-3 kit are specifically engineered to handle higher RPMs and provide a more stable valve train compared to standard springs. They offer enhanced durability and help maintain consistent performance, especially in high-stress environments. These springs are crucial for preventing valve float, which can lead to significant engine damage, making them an excellent choice for performance enthusiasts who want to push their engines to the limit.

Is this kit suitable for racing applications?

Yes, the Genuine COMP CAM 12-246-3 Xtreme Energy Kit is highly suitable for racing applications. The kit's specifications, including its lift, duration, and high-performance components, are designed to deliver significant power enhancements suitable for high-performance environments. This makes it an excellent choice for both amateur racers and those competing in more serious automotive sports looking to maximize their engine's output and responsiveness.

What type of installation does this camshaft kit require?

The installation of the COMP CAM 12-246-3 Xtreme Energy Kit typically requires advanced mechanical skills, specific tools, and some mechanical knowledge about engine assembly. It's advisable to perform the installation in a well-equipped workspace as the process involves removing the engine's cylinder heads and timing components. For best results, consulting with a professional mechanic or referring to the manufacturer's guidelines is recommended to ensure proper setup and performance alignment.

Will this kit fit my Chevrolet 350 engine?

Yes, the Genuine COMP CAM 12-246-3 Xtreme Energy Kit is designed to fit Chevrolet 350 engines, along with other small block variants such as the 283, 327, and 400. This versatility makes it an ideal solution for many Chevrolet enthusiasts looking to boost their engine's performance. When installed, you can expect improved power delivery as well as responsiveness across the RPM range, enhancing your driving experience.

What kind of performance gains can I expect with this kit?

With the Genuine COMP CAM 12-246-3 Xtreme Energy Kit, you can expect noticeable performance gains in terms of horsepower and torque. This camshaft provides higher lift and optimized timing, allowing for better air intake and exhaust flow. Users typically report improvements in throttle response and acceleration, making it a popular choice among performance enthusiasts.
