Thule Subterra Convertible Carry-on, Dark Slate

The Thule Subterra Convertible Carry-on in Vetiver Gray garners a mixed reception from customers who appreciate its robust build quality and aesthetic design. However, users have voiced significant concerns about its functionality, which some have described as baffling. One of the primary complaints is related to the design of the top compartment, which only opens a fraction of its length. Many customers find this limitation frustrating, especially for a bag designed for travel—where ease of access and packing are critical. The compartment’s restricted opening is likened to a child's backpack rather than a suitcase, which potentially hinders the bag's usefulness during trips. Another recurring theme in the feedback is the inadequacy of the electronics sleeve. While the bag includes this feature, customers point out that it lacks proper padding and organization. Without sufficient protection for laptops and devices, users feel compelled to supply their own sleeves, which adds inconvenience. The absence of division in the laptop section further complicates storage, leading to a chaotic experience when accessing tech essentials during travel. Moreover, while the bag has some practical features like hidden straps and the stability to stand upright when placed down, it suffers from functional shortcomings. Customers highlight the lack of lockable zippers, the potential for items to fall out of the laptop sleeve, and shared space between pockets—which can lead to packing compromises. Some reviewers have also noted the bag’s heaviness, lack of ergonomic design, and inefficiency as a backpack, questioning its label as a convertible carry-on. In summary, while the Thule Subterra Convertible Carry-on is well-built and visually appealing, its functional design fails to meet the expectations of many users, particularly for those who travel frequently and require a reliable carry-on solution. **
