Answer: Yes, the sander works nicely without the front guard. I usually have the guard removed and have had no problems, and I use the front roller for shaping as well. -

Is the stand included?
Answer: Yes, the stand is included. It is flimsy and the holes are not lined up well. The whole thing is flimsy and poorly designed. -

Is the shroud assembly over the drive belt made of plastic? If so, what's the difference between this sander and the Chicago Electric at Harbor Freight.
Answer: The G1014Z has a shroud assembly that is metal. -

How many inches of flat sanding surface between the stop and the end of the flat area?
Answer: There are 12 inches of flat sanding surface. However, I removed the stop which takes it to 17 inches. One of my better purchases, I might add. 5-star product.

However, replacement belts and discs are readily available. The shroud assembly over the drive belt is made of metal, distinguishing it from the Chicago Electric sander at Harbor Freight. The sander offers 12 inches of flat sanding surface, which can be extended to 17 inches by removing the stop. Overall, this is a highly recommended 5-star product.
