Answer: I'm using 8 lb test. I generally fish 4-6 lb test and have caught much heavier fish on that. Its handles heavier bass lures just fine. Same as you would use on a bait casting rod. -

what pound braided line can I use on this. Some harbor fishing off a boat and some deeper (300 feet) is what I would use it for?
Answer: Here is the line amount for the BG 4000 from diawa website. all are in yards. 10/300, 12/260, 14/210 J-BRAID: 20/370, 30/280, 40/200 - I have 30# braid at 280 yrds Went to Port Aransas tx last February fished from Jetties and surf, loved the reel and 7ft rod combination. Cast great and loved the reel. -

The real usa market daiwa bg3000 salt water sells for $119. for $20 is this rod usable for a cheap budget set-up?
Answer: I was skeptical when I purchased this, I was only looking for the reel for Salmon fishing in Michigan. Was was actually very impressed with both the reel and the rod. Both held up very good against a 25lb king salmon. Obviously there are way better rods out there if you want to spend the money, and i have plenty of those too, but for the money I don't think you'll be disappointed. -
Question:
how's the rod? Does it feel heavy?
Answer: No its not heavy. I replace an Ugly-Stix rod with this one. I really like it caught a 24 lbs King Salmon on it. I love the reel too.
