The machine can drill pearls and other softer materials, but cannot be used for materials such as eye stones or volcanic rock stones. The chuck key has a cross piece that is too long, and it hits the housing, causing it to be turned occasionally. The rod extending outside the housing while turning during drilling can be a safety hazard. The bead drill is easy to use, with little setup required. It is significantly better than a drill press as it keeps the resin beads cleaner and resists fractures when flipped over.
