Although it is noted as inaccurate in its depictions of real events, the story continues to resonate in Chinese popular culture as a model for secret societies, military organizations and loyalty. This new translation is incredibly engaging, well-written, lively, readable and coherent, making it a must-read, particularly in this edition, which is the first good translation using Pinyin instead of Wade–Giles. This new edition also has a character list at the beginning, brief descriptions, and accurate spellings and anecdotal footnotes. Overall, it is Considered one of the greatest epics, making it a valuable addition to any classical literature collection.
