Will this take a Heavy Duty 3 wire 12 gauge cord? all the others I've tried are too small for the cord to be clamped.
Answer: The clamp at the rear of each plug is pretty generous. Length of opening is 9/16 Inches. With screws on the sides backed out somewhat, width is a good 3/8 inches. I do not have a cord that was specified, so cannot say for certain. These plugs are well-made, and the clamp at the rear seems to give a good room for adjustment. -

Are these US made?
Answer: I don't remember, but they maybe from china. The quality is very good tough not cheap. I was able to tell because usually the translucent plastic is weak and will crack if you push it, but I was not able to deform it or break it. You have to take it apart to install it and I was expecting it to be crappy but it was not at all. I have it connected 24/7 outside charging my Electric Vehicle and it's holing well. The light is on and no problems with heat at all. I use it on a 50' extension cord AWG 12 with a load of 130V 12A with no power sag.
