The OASE Indoor Aquatics Bioplus 50 is a filter that is not suitable for a 55-gallon tank. It's German engineered and made in Italy. The filter should be used fully submerged. Factory filter is not efficient, but if small holes are added, it works okay. The filter has a built-in integrated diffuser with adjustable water flow nozzle that allows for uniform surface movement, prevents the formation of biofilm, and provides added aeration. Also, it's silent, easy to clean, and has good throughput. However, the intake slots are long and narrow, but not narrow enough to prevent small nano fish and large adult shrimp from getting sucked in. Modifications such as gluing screens or mesh over the intakes are necessary if you are planning on using this filter for a tank with nano fish. Some customers have added more foam and bio media, and some prefer to use an Aqua Clear 20 or canister filter instead. **
